La ciudad como página
The City as Page

2021

Public art intervention / happening

Painted banners, collective walk, Super 8 and 16mm film, medium-format photography

13 October 2021, Faculty of Fine Arts and the Júcar gorge, Cuenca

Considering the city as a text or a page, a receiving surface on which processes of representation gather, La ciudad como página took a set of large banners bearing texts out of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cuenca. Some fifty participants carried them in a slow, collective march along the Júcar gorge towards the mountain, pausing around the San Antón bridge, so that the texts could be read from changing distances and points of view across the city and its landscape.

Combining film, painting, action and the walk as an aesthetic form, the piece proposed a performative map: the city as page, text in motion.
Texts devised with Adrián Mena Paredes, who also painted the banners

Filmed on Super 8 and 16mm with five cameras by Saru Miras, Olaya Martínez, Tzuhan Hung, Alejo Duque and Esperanza Collado

Medium-format photography: Antonio Corrales
